Overkill History

The name Overkill Angling comes from a winter project that turned into something much more meaningful than just rebuilding a boat.

It started when my dad asked for help finding a tiller motor for his 12-foot fishing boat. He loves pan fishing and wanted something that would help him move around the lake more efficiently than a trolling motor alone. Instead of just finding a motor, I came across a 16-foot boat with a solid kicker and convinced him it was worth stepping up.

That decision turned into an entire winter spent side by side in the garage—sanding, painting, laying new carpet, installing electronics, and rigging the boat from top to bottom. What began as a simple upgrade quickly became something more.

As we worked, my dad kept adding to it—rod holders, cleats, mounts, and small details you’d normally only see on much larger, fully equipped boats. Each time, I’d laugh and ask, “Do you really need all that? Isn’t that a little… overkill?”

But he kept going, making the boat better, more efficient, and more dialed-in for fishing.

One evening, it finally clicked. I put the name “Overkill” on the transom and showed him. He laughed and immediately understood—it fit perfectly.

That boat, and that winter, stuck with me.

Over time, I realized I approach my own boats the same way. To me, “overkill” isn’t about excess—it’s about refinement. It’s about going the extra step to make things more efficient, more organized, and more enjoyable for everyone on board.

Overkill Angling was built on that mindset—because when it comes to your time on the water, the details matter.
